Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
brading.co.uk is operated by Private Equity Systems Ltd (company number 07193494, registered office 216 Wards Wharf Approach, London E16 2EQ) ("we", "us", "our"). We are the data controller for the personal information described here. For anything about this policy or your data, contact hello at brading.co.uk.
2. The information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your name, email address, a password (stored only as a secure hash), and optionally your phone or mobile number.
- Mailing-list consent — if you opt in, the fact that you consented and the date you did.
- Listing and event details you submit — business name, contact details, address, website, description, event details and similar.
- Messages you send us — reports, claims, edit requests and support enquiries.
Information we collect automatically
- Technical data — your IP address and basic server logs, kept for security and troubleshooting.
- Abuse protection — to stop the site being misused, we count requests, sign-ins, sign-ups and messages from each connection and set limits on them. For this we keep only a one-way hash of your IP address with a count and a time. It cannot be turned back into your IP address and is deleted automatically within a day of the limit period ending (at most 48 hours).
- Visit statistics — we count visits with our own simple analytics run on our server: for each page view, the page, date and time, the website you came from (if any), campaign tags in the link, your device type, browser, operating system and country. No cookies or anything else stored on your device, and your IP address is not stored: it is used only while the page loads, to work out your country and to make a visitor code that changes every day and cannot identify you. Search engines and other automated visitors are not counted.
- Essential cookie — one session cookie, set on every visit, that keeps you signed in and protects our forms. See section 4.
3. How and why we use your information
- To provide the service (create and run your account, publish the content you ask us to) — legal basis: performance of a contract with you.
- To send you marketing updates — only if you opted in — legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- To keep the service secure and working (prevent abuse, moderate content, fix problems) — legal basis: our legitimate interests.
- To understand how the site is used, through the visit statistics described above, so we can improve it — legal basis: our legitimate interests (the statistics collect as little as possible and cannot identify you).
- To meet legal obligations where they apply — legal basis: legal obligation.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
4. Cookies
We set one cookie, PHPSESSID, on every visit, whether or not you have an account. It keeps you signed in once you sign in, and it protects our forms against forged submissions. It holds only a random code, is sent only to this site, can't be read by scripts on the page, and is deleted when you close your browser.
This cookie is strictly necessary for the site to work securely, so the law doesn't require your consent for it, but we tell you about it here. We don't use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and we don't store anything else on your device: our visit statistics (section 2) use no cookies or browser storage.
5. Information you publish is public
Listings and events you choose to publish are shown publicly on brading.co.uk and may appear in search engines. Please don't include anything in them you wouldn't want to be public. You can hide or change your content from your account (or ask us to).
6. Who we share it with
We share personal information only with the service providers that help us run the site ("processors"), under contracts that require them to protect it:
| Provider | Purpose | Location |
|---|---|---|
| British Hosting | Website & database hosting | United Kingdom |
| British Hosting | Outbound email (verification, notifications) | United Kingdom |
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect our rights, users or the public.
7. International transfers
Some of our providers process data outside the England and Wales (see the table above). Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as the provider's own compliance frameworks and contractual protections).
8. How long we keep it
We keep account and content data for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterwards to meet legal, security and record-keeping needs. Mailing-list data is kept until you unsubscribe. Visit statistics: individual page views for 30 days, then only daily totals (for example, page views per page or per country) for 13 months. IP address hashes used for abuse protection: at most 48 hours. You can ask us to delete your account and associated personal data (see your rights below).
9. Your rights
Under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our use of your personal information, to data portability, and to withdraw consent for marketing at any time. To exercise any of these, email hello at brading.co.uk. If you're not satisfied, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
10. How we protect your information
We use measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, protection against cross-site request forgery, rate-limiting of sign-in attempts, and access controls on administrative areas. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and to respond quickly if something goes wrong.
11. Children
The service is intended for adults and for businesses. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll change the "effective" date above and, for significant changes, let you know.
